Somma's material is soft and flexible plastic, so it does not harden and break in hard frost like many hard plastics. The handles on the bar are also made of plastic and have adjustable straps attached to them. The ends have metal spikes with finished rubber plugs for protection. If necessary, the sommat can be easily removed if you do not want to use them, so that you can use the poles for, for example, pole walking.
The fiberglass rod is light and durable. The sharp and durable metal tip also helps to advance on icy surfaces. In soft snow you need slightly longer sticks than in hard packed snow.
